The Locations screen

Locations on the guide home screen shows whoever in your group is currently sharing their position — as a list, with a map above it when there is something to put on one. It exists for one job: finding the two people who wandered off, without tracking anyone.

What you see

The screen sorts your group by what needs your attention:

• SOS first. If anyone has pressed SOS, they are pinned at the top in red — "SOS — needs help" — with when they sent their position and a Call … now button if their number is on file. Their marker on the map is red too.
• Everyone with a position. Each row gives the last position's time, stated honestly: "Last position 4 minutes ago — as of 14:29, not live," plus a rounded accuracy like "within about 40 meters," and why you have it — "Sharing until 15:10," "Shared once by them," or "Not sharing any more — this is their last sent position."
• Not sharing. Everyone else is listed plainly with "Not sharing — that's their choice, and it's fine." That is a normal state, not a problem to chase.

Tapping a marker on the map highlights that person's row in the list, so the dot and the name never come apart.

How fresh it is

The line at the top tells you exactly: "Updated 14:32 (2 minutes ago). Checks by itself every 30 seconds while open." Leave the screen open at a rest stop and it keeps itself current; pull down to check right now. If the phone has not been able to reach the server, the stamp says that instead — the screen never pretends old data is new.

Offline behavior

• The list always works. It renders from the last fetch saved on your phone, with the stamp telling you how old that fetch is.
• The map needs an internet connection for its tiles. When it cannot load, the screen says so — "The map needs an internet connection — the list below still works" — and comes back by itself once you are reconnected.

What positions actually are

Every position is a single point a guest chose to send, with the time it was captured. There is no live track, no trail, and no background collection — a guest's phone sends nothing while their app is closed. When a guest shares, their session is time-limited and expires on its own; positions older than 30 days are deleted. The screen itself carries this summary in its "How location sharing works" card, so you and your guests are reading the same rules:

• Off unless a guest turns it on.
• You see their last sent position — not a live track.
• It turns itself off automatically.
• An SOS always comes through, even with sharing off.

Asking the group to share

When free time in a crowded place is coming up, the practical move is a group message: ask guests who are comfortable with it to open Info → Share My Location and tap Share for the next hour. Say the why — "so I can find you at 5 if we get separated" — and say clearly that it is optional. It genuinely is: the screen treats not sharing as a first-class answer, and so should you.
