Group rules
These are the rules for the group on your trip — the ones on the card the app shows before you write for the first time, written out in full. Your tour company runs the group and your guide keeps it civil. Cordelle, which makes the app, can close it if it has to.
The four rules on the card
- Be kind. No selling. Write to the people on your trip the way you would speak to them at breakfast. Nothing rude, nothing abusive, nothing that makes fun of anyone on the trip. Nothing for sale, no links to things for sale, no asking for money.
- Your guide can remove a message or stop someone from posting. A removed message shows "Removed by your guide" to everyone. Someone who keeps breaking the rules can be paused for a day by the guide, for longer by the tour company's office, or removed from the group altogether by the office.
- Anything urgent comes from your guide in the Inbox. The group is for the trip's small talk and questions. A change of plan, a bus time, an emergency — those come as a message from your guide, in the Inbox tab, with a notification. If you need someone now, call your guide from the Emergency page. Do not rely on the group for it.
- Everyone on your trip can read this. Please don't post medical details — call your guide. Every traveler on the trip who has the app, your guides and your tour company's office can read every message. Your dietary and medical notes are held for your guide and your tour company's office only; keep them out of the group, and keep other people's out too.
What you agree to
- To follow the four rules above.
- That your messages show your first name and last initial — "Margaret H." — to everyone on the trip.
- That your messages can be read by your tour company's office, kept by them until 30 days after the trip ends, and exported by them as their own record of the trip.
- That your tour company's guide and office may remove a message, pause your posting, remove you from the group or switch the group off, and that Cordelle may close the group, to keep it safe or to meet the rules of the app stores the app is published on.
- That you are writing words only — up to 1,000 characters a message, up to 20 messages an hour — and that a message with a word from a short list of slurs and strong profanity will not be sent.
What you can do
- Report a message. Tap More under it, then Report this message, pick a reason, and send. Your tour company looks within a day; the person you reported is not told who reported them. A message reported by two people is hidden from the group until the office decides.
- Block a person. Tap More, then Block. You stop seeing their messages; they are not told, and nobody else is affected. You can show their messages again at any time.
- Delete your own message. Tap Delete under it. Everyone sees "Message removed" in its place.
- Quiet the group, or leave it. The Quiet button stops the buzzing; Leave the group under Settings stops you writing and buzzing while you can still read. Nobody is told, and you can rejoin at any time.
What is kept, and for how long
- Each message, with your name as shown, the time, and whether it was a question; any report made about it; and what your guide or the office did about it.
- Your agreement to these rules, your notification choice, and the people you have blocked — the last of these is kept only on your own record and shown to nobody.
- All of it is deleted 30 days after the trip ends. Backups can hold a copy for up to 14 days after that. Nothing from the group goes into the printed packet or the trip download on your phone. If your tour company connects its own booking system to Cordelle, that system can read the group the way the office does; the automatic notices it receives carry only that a message was posted or reported, never the words.
- Notifications about the group carry a count — "Group: 3 new messages" — never the words.
Who to talk to
About the trip, the group or anything someone wrote: your tour company — they run it, and their number is on the Emergency page. About the app itself, or if you cannot reach your tour company: [email protected]. A person reads it, usually within a business day. The full account of what Cordelle stores is in the Privacy notice, under Group messages.
