Joining as a guide

Guides use the same app as travelers but join with a different code — the guide code for the departure. That one code unlocks guide mode: the roster, the megaphone, headcounts, the group map, and the emergency vault.

The guide code

Every departure has its own guide code, separate from every traveler's personal code. The office reads it off the departure page in the dashboard and passes it to you — however your operation normally does that. Treat it like a key: it opens the whole group's roster, including care notes and emergency contacts.

Joining

  1. Install Cordelle from the App Store or Google Play, and open it.
  2. On the Enter your trip code screen, type the departure's guide code and tap Join my trip.
  3. The confirmation says "You are set up as the guide" — that is how you know you joined with the right kind of code. If it welcomes you as a traveler instead, you typed a traveler's personal code.
  4. Answer the one question about notifications (you can change this later from the guide home screen), then tap Continue.

Joining downloads the roster and the itinerary to your phone, so your tools keep working with no internet — the point of the whole system. Do the join itself somewhere with a connection, before the day you need it.

What guide mode gives you

The guide home screen is six oversized buttons and nothing else:

When the code is rotated

The office can rotate a departure's guide code at any time — end of season, a guide moving on, a lost phone. Rotation cuts off every phone joined with the old code, immediately.

If that happens to your phone, the app tells you plainly with a card that says "Your guide code has expired." Everything already saved stays readable, but nothing new comes in and nothing sends. The fix:

  1. Get the new guide code from the office.
  2. On the guide home screen, tap Leave this trip… and confirm.
  3. Join again with the new code.

Leaving the trip deletes anything still waiting to send — including messages you wrote while offline. The app warns you when that is about to happen; if a queued message matters, write its text down before you leave the trip.

Handing the phone back at season's end

Same control, calmer circumstances: Leave this trip… on the guide home screen removes the roster and everything saved for the departure from the phone. Ask the office to rotate the guide code as well — that is the belt to your suspenders: once rotated, the old code opens nothing, on any phone.
